If that's true, why am I getting what appear to be legitimate updates that try to install when I shut down my computer running XP? It didn't do it, but could you please explain the "Event Cache" statement? Sometimes they sit on it. If you stopped applying patches at some point and those are OS updates to XP itself, it will keep nagging you to put those in. I got one update for Malicious Software Removal Tool, and several updates for Office 2007 when I ran Windows Update.
