While they are not generating XP updates anymore, any old updates will still come through and non-XP updates will also show up. I've searched & tried 20 different fixes & nothing has helped. Same results. At LEAST it starts out by creating a Restore Point!!

Where Is Windows Update In Xp

Well apparently I need this now as I did the same thing. Heavy on facts, light on opinions. I searched for, found, downloaded & ran 10 different MS "Fix it" apps & some things were fixed, but MANY were not.
