Try closing your blinds, otherwise I think your remote is busted. Try a fresh set of batteries on your wiimote for this tutorial. The sensor bar just transmits infrared light (which candles do very nicely). It sounds like you broked your Wiimote.

When the blinking stops, the connection is complete. You should see the cursor now.
