Took me months to work it all out. If you want to enable and rely on System Restore, this must be done preemptively, before you have a problem. The darned thing learn all these bad habits the more start-up & shutdown cycles it does that contain issues & problems, the further away from a fix you get. Reply Turik August 9, 2016 at 12:34 am Great ideas, IF you can get Windows to boot. I've used System Restore numerous times since 2002 and it's extremely rare for it not to work in my experience. If the backup process is retried, the error may not reoccur. You might have to access Safe Mode through Advanced Boot Options.
