Another thing is I CAN use my keyboard in a windows remote console to my Windows 2012 r2 VM. Check Grab when cursor enters window if you want VMware Server to grab the keyboard and mouse input whenever your cursor enters the virtual machine display. The mouse does work and I am able to use the 'on-screen keyboard' accessibility tool to input my password and gain entry. Solution 3 worked very well.
